While November is recognized nationwide as Hospice Awareness Month, I didn’t want to wait to talk about the importance of hospice care. Fresh off the Treasure Coast Hospice Annual Golf Tournament, I was reminded of just how vital this work is—and how deeply it impacts the lives of patients and families.
Too often, people only learn about hospice during a crisis, when a loved one is facing a life-limiting illness. But hospice is not just about the final days or weeks of life. The earlier families connect with a hospice provider, the more comprehensive the support—both medical and emotional—they receive. Early engagement can make a profound difference in quality of life, not only for patients but also for their loved ones. We observe this difference repeatedly with the families we serve.
Over the years, my professional relationship with Treasure Coast Hospice has grown into something deeply personal. As a partner through Evergreen Private Care, we often collaborate to support families with nursing, home care, and respite care—providing an added layer of compassion during difficult times. Their unwavering dedication to preserving dignity inspired me to become a volunteer myself.
As a Veteran, it’s a special honor to participate in the Veteran Honors Ceremonies alongside fellow Veteran volunteers. These ceremonies leave a lasting impression—not only on the Veterans themselves, but also on their loved ones. It’s a humbling experience that prompted me to reflect on my own legacy and the impact I hope to make.
Confronting the reality of limited time has a way of putting life into perspective. For me, it’s a reminder to prioritize what truly matters: my faith, my family, and my community.
