Still Serving: Why Caring for Veterans Is More Than Our Mission . . . It’s Personal

By William “David” Snyder, Owner & CEO, Evergreen Private Care | U.S. Marine Corps Veteran

For me, the call to serve began long before Evergreen Private Care existed, and before I ever wore the uniform.

I was in high school when my father attended the FBI National Academy in Washington, D.C. A close family friend, Gary Uber, who served as a Marine Corps Chaplain, took me to visit Marine Corps Base Quantico. I spent a day on the base watching Marines train and talk about what service meant to them.

By the end of that day, I knew exactly what I wanted to do.

“That visit to Quantico changed everything. I saw what honor, courage, and commitment looked like — and I wanted to live it.”

Why the Marine Corps?

When people ask why I chose the Marine Corps, the answer always makes me smile. Someone once told me it was the hardest branch to join. That was all the motivation I needed.

The Marines are built on challenge, endurance, and excellence — and that’s where I wanted to belong. So, when I returned home from that visit to Quantico, I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.

Lessons That Last a Lifetime

My time in the Corps changed everything about my life. It gave me an unshakable sense of patriotism and a deep respect for the legacy of service that has been passed down for nearly 250 years.

To be part of that story, to wear that uniform, and to carry that standard is something that has never left me.

“The Marine Corps taught me to never quit, never give up, and never forget those who stand beside you.”

A Community That Never Forgot

After 9/11, I served during the War on Terrorism — an experience that forever shaped my perspective. When I returned home from Iraq, I was deeply moved to see hundreds of people from my community lining the Roosevelt Bridge in downtown Stuart.

They waved flags, held signs, and cheered for the troops returning home. Many of those who organized that homecoming was Vietnam Veterans — men and women who had never received such a warm welcome themselves. They were determined to change the story for our generation, and for that, I will always be grateful.

“To those who were there that day, and to every Veteran who has returned before or since — welcome home.”

A New Way to Serve

That experience reignited my sense of purpose. It showed me that service doesn’t end when you take off the uniform — it simply takes on a new form.

Today, at Evergreen Private Care, I have the honor of serving that same Veteran community in a new way — through care, dignity, and compassion. Every Veteran we serve represents a small way to repay the debt we owe to those who have risked everything for our freedom.

Mission First, Always

Caring for Veterans isn’t just part of what we do at Evergreen; it’s who we are. As a Veteran-owned and operated company, we understand the bond and responsibility of service, the challenges of transition, and the importance of trust. Our mission for Veterans, Caring, whatever it takes,  is deeply rooted in that shared commitment.

“Every Veteran we help is more than a client — they’re a brother, a sister, and part of the same story of service that binds us all.”

Carrying the Legacy Forward

Every Veteran we help to maintain or restore independence, and every family we support during difficult times, represents a continuation of that mission. It’s personal, it’s meaningful, and it’s why Evergreen exists.

My hope is to pass that same spirit of service on to my children, my team, our caregivers, and the communities we touch. When we care for Veterans, we honor the best of who we are — and continue a legacy of service that never ends.
